Question about splitting up a feral cat colony

Hi,

first I was told the cats could all come back out to the location. Now they would like to thin out the colony- it started at 10 cats. Here is my question: I have homes for single cats but no one wants a pair of feral cats for barn duty. Will a solo feral cat put in a new home/place stay around or am I shooting myself in the foot and setting the cat up for failure? My guess is most of these ferals are a no more than a year old+/- a few months.
